The long-awaited fourth album from Atlanta’s own Lloyd has finally arrived. Lloyd’s smooth, airy voice is back, set to 14 new tracks to set our summer right. Let’s pop the CD in and see where it goes.
“Dedication To My Ex (Miss That), is a provocative, upbeat track with an old school feel that talks about his love for the female parts of an old lover. Aided by two of arguably the best lyricists of our time, Andre 3000 and Lil’ Wayne, the song is sure to get a lot of traction at radio.
The slow, guitar-driven “Naked” is one you can play with the lights low to set the mood right for that hot date. As soon as you press play, you’ll both instantly know what time it is. Lloyd’s melodic vocal delivery on the track makes it an easy listen, so much so till you can almost visualize the scene.
Another radio-friendly track, “Cupid” featuring Awesome Jones, has been a breath of fresh air since it first hit the airwaves. It almost begs for you to let the top back or your windows down in the cool of the day and just ride with your favorite girl or guy.
The more serious “World Cry” featuring R. Kelly, Keri Hilson, and K’Naan speaks on world issues and how they can be changed, which is a refreshing departure from the singer’s typical love-language fare. The lyrics are worth listening to, though, as we should all be able to relate.
Overall, the album is pretty solid. Produced by a slew of hitmakers, (of course including bossman, Polow Da Don), it’s sure to be one of those “keep it in the car for easy access” CDs. Lloyd continues to deliver good and consistent music with his signature sound. It won’t knock you over, but you won’t use it as just a coaster, either.
