It just wouldn’t be a party if you didn’t have Maze featuring Frankie Beverly singing through your speakers. A leading R&B group since the ’70s, Maze is celebrating the 35th anniversary of their signing to Capitol Records with the new Greatest Hits, which features their acclaimed R&B-soul band’s top hits and signature songs, including a live version of “Joy And Pain,” “Workin’ Together,” “Golden Time of Day,” “Southern Girl,” “Back In Stride,” ”Running Away” and many others.
The Marvin Gaye-inspired band got their big break when the legendary crooner urged them to change their name from Raw Soul to Maze and to join him as his opening act for a West Coast tour. They released their debut album, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, in 1977, which became the first in a series of seven gold albums for the band and Capitol Records.
Maze featuring Frankie Beverly is currently on tour, with several U.S. dates scheduled through the summer. –yvette caslin
