Jimmy Parker is dead and Charles Sims, the man accused of his execution-style murder, will likely spend the rest of his life in prison—all because of a misunderstanding over a dripping air conditioner.
The altercation began when Sims’ sister claimed Parker had spilled water onto her head as she walked past an apartment building in the 5600 block of West Washington in Chicago. Sims confronted Parker, and the disagreement quickly turned violent. There was no chance for anyone to explain that the source of the water was a third floor air conditioner that was dripping condensation onto the street, because Sims quickly drew his 9mm and fired eight shots into Jimmy Parker. Witnesses said the eighth and final shot was a dramatic and definitive “coup de grace.”
Six witnesses identified Sims as the shooter, but he denied any wrongdoing. He is being held without bail.
