Festival del Nazareno Photography Retreat

Festival del Nazareno Photography Retreat

Atlanta based artist collective Taller Portobelo Norte takes you to Portobelo, Panama with the Festival del Nazareno Photography Retreat October 16th – 23rd.

As part of our mission to facilitate the rich exchanges that happen as the many multi-cultured and multi-ethnic citizens of the African Diaspora encounter one another and share their cultural practices, traditions and experiences, Taller Portobelo Norte has organized the 2011 Festival del Nazareno Photography Retreat in Portobelo, Panama.

El Festival del Nazareno, also known as the Black Christ Festival, is ideal for participants interested in religion, Latin America and the African Diaspora. Professional, Emerging and Photography Enthusiasts alike won’t fail to be stimulated by the abundance of stunning visual imagery, overwhelming emotion and electrifying energy of the festival.

More secular than sacred, the Festival boasts streets full of food vendors, shops, make-shift discoteques and pilgrims crawling, dancing, drinking, praying and partying for El Nazareno.

Artists will have the opportunity to commune with one another, work on small projects and participate in the annual religious festival that draws tens of thousands of pilgrims each year.

As a special treat, participants will get to meet, view and discuss the work of Photographer Sandra Eleta and Filmmaker Miguel Sanchez, as well as the talented and accomplished painters of the Taller Portobelo artist collective.
