Chanel cosmetics’ current foundation line Pro Lumiere is available in only six shades, leading many women of color to walk on by the Chanel counter in search of makeup that compliments a darker skin tone.
Aiming to reach that formerly overlooked consumer, Chanel is launching Perfection Lumière, a foundation line that will include 23 shades from very fair to very dark, 20 of which will be available in the U.S..
“This foundation was designed to be very universal,” said Christine Dagousset, Executive Vice President of Fragrance and Beauté for Chanel in the U.S..
Chanel’s creative director for makeup, Peter Philips, says he has made it his goal to create a “perfect foundation that adjusts to the skin needs of every ethnicity and stays in place with a flawless finish.”
The campaign for Perfection Luminere will feature Alyssah Ali, an Indian and Spanish model. Hopefully, in the future more women of color will join Ali in showcasing this new product.
