Serena Williams lost her championship match in the U.S. Open, but she made more headlines for losing her cool during the lopsided defeat. Williams became infuriated once the chair umpire took away her winning point because she yelled, “C’mon.” Although it was an attempt to motivate herself, the umpire believed that it was a distraction to her opponent Samantha Stosur.
Williams berated the umpire and was fined $2,000 for the outburst. Major news outlets concentrated more on Williams’ fine than Stosur’s win. Fox News anchor Gretch Carlson took the situation further by questioning if Williams’ rant had racial undertones.
“This is what’s wrong with our society, it’s the entitlement gratin,” Carlson said. “And she called her a ‘hater.’ Is that a racial undertone?”
Fox News’ right wing propaganda can be sickening at times. But Carlson proves, again, that many of the broadcasters on the station are ignorant and disconnected from any culture that doesn’t share their views.
Carlson attempted to turn the tables on Williams by bringing race into an argument between an athlete and a referee. The incident proves that Fox News will always attempt to survive by using race baiting antics. –amir shaw
