The Steed Society and Comerica Bank hosted the sixth annual Top 25 Women of Houston Awards at the Houstonian Ballroom on Friday, Oct. 7. A remarkable group of women were lauded for their accomplishments in their respective fields with friends, family, colleagues and former Top 25 alum looking on. “It is in this annual recognition ceremony that we raise them above the fray to highlight their success stories,” said Munson Steed, publisher and CEO of Steed Media Group. One of the evening’s high points was the keynote address delivered by the renowned Democratic strategist Donna Brazile. The phenomenal political powerhouse offered prolific advice to the 25 honorees and wished them continued success in all of their future endeavors.
Doctors, attorneys, corporate executives, entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders and philanthropists were among the impressive women recognized for being visionaries and bringing their significant talents to bear in diverse arenas. “They have broken barriers in their industries and have undoubtedly helped pave the path for Houston’s next generation,” said Irvin Ashford Jr., senior vice president of Community Development, Comerica Bank. The Steed Society’s Junior Youth Initiative, a program that encompasses volunteerism, mentoring and leadership, presented 25 senior girls from Jack Yates High School for mentorship and future induction in the TOP 25 Women of Houston club. Selected participants will be eligible for college scholarship opportunities.
Elected officials including Houston’s Mayor Anise Parker, city council members Jolanda Jones and Wanda Adams, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and state Representative Al Green also attended.
