Months after the tragic loss of British soul singer Amy Winehouse, fans are still left with many questions surrounding the singer’s untimely death on July 23. Though those questions about her death still remain unanswered, fans will soon enough learn about the singer’s dynamic life as it was recently announced that Winehouse’s father, Mitch Winehouse, plans to pen a memoir about his late daughter.
According to CNN, On Oct. 10, Senior VP at HarperCollins, Lisa Sharkey, announced that Mitch has signed a book deal with their celebrity-themed imprint, It Books, to release the memoir, simply titled, Amy: My Daughter, in summer 2012.
According to Mitch, Amy will be a fitting “tribute to his daughter and his best friend, chronicling the modern soul singer’s life, from her early years of mischief and musical intrigue, to her rise to fame and her struggles with drug and alcohol addiction. Proceeds from the book will go to benefit the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which works to help young people in Britain and abroad who struggle with addiction, health issues, disability or financial disadvantage
“I feel that I need to write this book to tell the true story of Amy and to help with my personal recovery,” Mitch explained in the statement from HarperCollins. “I also want to raise as much money as possible for Amy’s foundation, so all proceeds from the book will go directly to help children who are disadvantaged through illness and substance addiction. I believe that, through Amy’s music, her foundation, and this book, her name will live forever.”
As Sharkey explained, Amy will speak to the universal love between father and daughter and tell the truest story of Winehouse’s life.
“Amy Winehouse could have been anyone’s daughter,” Sharkey said. “She was Mitch’s pride and joy. and he did everything he could to save her life. … This will surely be the definitive book about Amy. Nobody else could write it.” –nicholas robinson
