Queen Latifah Launching New Talk Show in 2013

Queen Latifah has found success in many avenues, including music, film, fashion and prime time TV. But one area that has eluded her golden touch is daytime TV. Now, more than a decade after seeing the demise of her first daytime talk show, it’s been announced that Latifah is planning to launch a new talk show, set to debut in 2013.

According to the New York Times, Sony Pictures Television announced the plans for the untitled show on Oct. 31. Latifah and partner Shakim Compere will launch the syndicated talk show through a partnership between her Flavor Unit Entertainment production company and fellow hip-hop mogul Will Smith and partner James Lassiter’s Overbrook Entertainment.

Latifah’s first foray into daytime television came in September 1999 when her talk show, “The Queen Latifah Show,” began airing in syndication. The show featured interviews with A-list Hollywood celebrities as well as performances from some of the New Jersey rapper’s hip-hop comrades like Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige, Naughty by Nature and Ice Cube.

Many are wondering how well Latifah will fare in her second attempt at daytime TV, with many fearful that her show will suffer the same fate as actress Mo’Nique, whose “The Mo’Nique Show,” was canceled by BET this past summer after only two seasons on the air.

But before Latifah returns to daytime TV and discovers her show’s fate, the Oscar-nominated actress is keeping busy producing the upcoming film, Percentage, which stars Harlem rapper Cam’ron. Latifah also lent her voice to the upcoming kid-flick, Ice Age 4: Continental Drift.
