Michelle Obama Booed at NASCAR Event; 5 Other Jabs Against the Obamas

Like any celebrity political figure, first lady Michelle Obama has received her fair (and sometimes unfair) share of criticism from the media and political opposition. But Obama received a bit of surprising criticism at a recent NASCAR event when she and Dr. Jill Biden, Vice President Joe Biden’s wife, were booed by a crowd of racing fans.

According to CBS, on Nov. 20, Obama and Biden served as Grand Marshalls at the NASCAR season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, appearing as part of their Joining Forces charitable campaign to support military veterans and their families.

And as the Obama and Biden were announced to the audience to begin the race, the two women were met with boos from the crowd, enough so that any cheers of approval were drowned out. However, ABC previously reported that a source who was with Obama at the time downplayed the incident, saying the boos could not be heard over the “loud chaotic program with jets flying over and tons of noise.”

Though it’s unfortunate that Obama and Biden’s charitable efforts were marred by criticism, it’s not the first time that Michelle or her husband, President Barack Obama, have received harsh criticism. Here are five other notable jabs taken at the Obamas.

Unfortunately, they were totally disrespected at what was supposed to be a charitable effort. By now, the women know It comes along with the territory. Several years ago, my family went to a NASCAR event, we received several uncomfortable stares as the only African Americans in the crowd.  I do hope things have changed, but apparently, not.
