FAMU Band Director Threatens Lawsuit After Firing Over Hazing Death; 4 Other Major HBCU Hazing Incidents

In 1998, Ivery Luckey, a FAMU clarinet player from Ocala, Fla., said he was paddled around 300 times, which sent him to the hospital and leaving him physically and emotionally scarred. Twenty band members were suspended over the fracas. Luckey filed a lawsuit against the state Board of Regents. According to media reports, Luckey settled out of court for $50,000.
