DMX – …And Then There Was X
Coming off of two No. 1 debuts for It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot and Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood in 1998, DMX followed up with a third No. 1 album, …And Then There Was X in 1999, which went 5x platinum. Many in the hip-hop community expected X to be a shoe in for multiple wins at the Grammy Awards, but the rapper only received two nominations. DMX’s pal Jay-Z boycotted the Graamy Awards for years afterwards, claiming that the Recording Academy didn’t respect hip-hop.
