Dwyane Wade’s nephew was one of 13 people who were shot in Chicago in one day. Wade’s nephew was shot at the Bishop Golden convenience store on March 29.
“I don’t have all of the details at this time,” Wade said in a statement. “My thoughts and prayers are with all involved, including my nephew and sister. Having grown up in the inner-city, I am aware of the difficult realities that exist on the streets. One of the goals of my foundation, the Wade’s World Foundation, is to continue to spread the message that the violence needs to stop.”
Chicago was besieged by gun violence on March 29. According to reports, 13 people were shot and two were killed within a span of six hours in the city. The city has become notorious for violent crimes.
Chicago has already racked up more than 100 homicides in the first quarter of 2012. The city is on pace to reach 600 or more homicides in 2012.
