A disgruntled student reportedly entered a classroom at Oikos University, an independent school located near the Oakland, Calif., airport, and opened fire, killing seven and wounding three others.
Local news station KTVU reports that the gunman calmly walked into a Safeway store and alerted others that he shot several people.
The suspect was taken into custody in the parking lot of that store.
Alameda police then arrived and took him into custody without further incident.
“We do believe we have detained an individual responsible for the shooting at the college,” Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said.
The gunman had recently been kicked out of a class at the school, and the shooting began shortly before 11:00 a.m. PST.
