It has become an annual tradition for Forbes magazine to present its list of the richest people in the world. Not surprisingly, of the 1,226 people who made Forbes Billionaires List, Oprah Winfrey is the only African American on the list. The queen of television talk expanded her empire in 2008 when she partnered with Discovery Communications to create the Oprah Winfrey Network. This after decades of having the most successful talk show in U.S. history — “The Oprah Winfrey Show” which debuted nationally in 1986. Her fortune continued to grow via a lucrative syndication deal in concert with launching other shows including “Dr. Phil,” “Rachael Ray”
and “Dr. Oz.”
It is not unusual that media moguls frequently are at the top of lists of the wealthiest people, in particular those with
