Madea is the current king/queen of both the urban big screen and the stage. Perry’s plays surrounding the character Madea breaks box office records on its tour in virtually every city it visits. The revenue accrued from the Madea films and plays have enabled the genius Perry to hire scores of blacks in movie making roles, both behind the scenes and in front of the camera, build the first-ever black-owned studio, create three hit sitcoms, introduce new talent who would otherwise would not have been seen and have enabled Perry to delve into serious fare with movies no one else would make (The Family that Preys, For Colored Girls, Good Deeds).
