We’re all very familiar with Frank Loesser’s iconic song, “Luck Be a Lady,” which was made famous by Frank Sinatra. Much like the lead character in the movie Guys and Dolls, Cee-Lo Green falls for a new gal pal and he takes a gamble by replacing his rescued white Persian cat, Purrfect, with a Moluccan cockatoo named Lady.
This gesture has animal rights groups up in arms because his feathery friend is an endangered species and is apparently known for self-mutilating when kept as pets. They often turn to plucking and other forms of self-harm.
“Lady’s name says it all. She’s my little lady with a big opinion. Sometimes [she] whispers inappropriateness in my ear, but always ladylike,” Green says in an interview with People magazine.
Plans to turn Lady into a pet-lebrity like big sister Purrfect who landed an endorsement deal to appear in the remix of the “Meow Mix” cat food song, may be put on hold until things can be worked out with the animal rights group Born Free. –yvette caslin
