The WK&F Group or Wylie K & Friends, LLC
Title: General Partner
What is your specialty?
The WK&F Group specializes in special events and destination travel events.
How did you decide to start your business?
I wanted to take my promotional company to another level, and also be a trendsetter in a niche market. I observed the lifestyle and entertainment habits of my network and realized there was a need for destination travel and events.
How long have you been in business?
We have been in operation for seven years.
We’ve been hearing a lot about Miami Takeover. Briefly describe the event and why people should attend.
Miami Takeover is a destination, style and travel experience with an action packed weekend full of nightlife events catered toward urban professionals. There will be various celebrity-hosted parties, day events, a comedy show featuring comedians Red Grant and Joe Clair and entertainment by one of the best soul bands in the nation – Black Alley, and much more.
What are some of the most-anticipated events of the weekend?
The kick-off event on Friday, July 21, is Dee Jay Casper’s All-White Affair at Nikki Beach. This [event] will jump start the weekend and put people in the vibe to experience all the best Miami nightlife has to offer.
On Saturday afternoon from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Big Tigger will host the Beach Bash at the Legendary Clevelander Hotel, which is an indoor-outdoor party.
On Saturday, we’re transforming the Miami Convention Center into an all-out casino and mega club, complete with plush VIP for Cirque Du Wylie’s Mega Club and Casino, hosted by Big Tigger and Miss Kimmy from 99 Jamz, with some of the proceeds benefiting the Madison Avenue for Kids Foundation. With music by DJ SNS, Dee Jay Casper, Timbaland and Missy’s Tour DJ, DJ Freestyle Steve, with appearances by models, ballers, and Miami’s socialites, this will be one of the highlights of the 5th Annual Miami Takeover Weekend.
Then on Sunday, your readers won’t want to miss Caught Red Handed on South Beach Comedy Show with Red Grant, hosted by Joe Clair, followed by a listening party with the DMV’s most- exciting garage soul band, Black Alley.
For those who would like to join our community service efforts, we are also hosting the 2nd Annual Miami Takeover Beach Sweep from 12 to 2 pm on Sunday, July 22 Nearly three dozen volunteers from Miami and Miami Takeover attendees will partner with the Miami Beach Convention Center to clean a mile of South Beach, from 17th to 18th Streets.
How did you choose Miami?
I lived in Miami for nine years and hosted events on South Beach for three years prior to my departure. I had firsthand knowledge on how difficult it was sometimes for people to gain entry into events on South Beach. I decided to create the Miami Takeover experience to eliminate the hassle and difficulty of getting into venues and overspending on entertainment in Miami.
Any special guests?
Big Tigger is the host of the weekend. We have a lot of former and current NBA/NFL Players confirmed for attendance as well.
What qualifications/education/skills prepared you for this job?
Having a Degree in Engineering from FAMU has helped structure a fundamentally sound weekend full of complicated logistics to ensure all guests have a stress-free weekend. Also, each year brings new experiences and makes our team more prepared for the following year. This is our 5th anniversary, and so by now we’ve developed excellent relationships with the best venues, hotels and businesses in Miami and especially on South Beach.
