Black United Fund of Illinois to Salute Eight ‘Embers’ on September 29
You know their names and more importantly, you’ve experienced their good works: ESPN contributor Robert ‘Scoop’ Jackson; Dr. Garrard McClendon, Emmy Award winning talk show host; Kendall Moore, host of the Kendall Moore Show on WVON and noted AIDS activist; Dr. Khalil Gibran Muhammad, Executive Director of the Schomburg Center for Black Research and Culture in New York; Cliff Rome, award winning chef, entrepreneur and owner of the Parkway Ballroom; Kurt Summers, chief-of-staff to Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle; Sharif Walker, regional director After School Matters and Carl West, columnist and founder of TruthBTold News Service.
These eight men are embers, forces of change that have collectively disrupted the machine that holds the disenfranchised back, while rekindling and spreading leadership within the community. The Black United Fund of Illinois has designated 2012 as “The Year of the Man,” and saluted the honorees at a reception and panel discussion on leadership that took place at the Black United Fund of Illinois headquarters on Thursday, July 19.
The Passing the Torch Living Legends event will take place on September 29th at the Parkway Ballroom in Chicago. For more information, visit www.BUFI.org.
