At the time of his death, billionaire aviator Howard Hughes had no will. A purported will was brought forward but later proved false. In the end, Hughes’ estate was finally distributed under intestacy laws in 1983 among his 22 cousins, who split $2.5 billion. However, his estate’s legal battle continued until 1997 and included the IRS.
