It’s been a hellish few months for disgraced NFL star Chad Johnson after he assaulted his now ex-wife, Evelyn Lozada, during a heated argument. Though his life and career may be in shambles, Johnson blames no one else but himself, and has now revealed that he’s seeking help for his violent temper.
“I’m trying to find out how can I channel my anger when I’m in situations to where I would pop off. How can I diffuse those situations,” he said in an interview with “Inside The NFL.”
In the wake of Johnson’s head-butting attack, the former Miami Dolphins star plead not guilty to battery charges, and media reports say he argued that he and Lozada “accidentally” butted heads during their altercation.
However, Johnson now says that he always has and always will take responsibility for the attack.
“I take full responsibility for everything. Always will. Always have,” he said. “I had an altercation with my wife. We all know. It’s no secret. The consequences to that altercation with my wife was me being released [from the Miami Dolphins].”
Johnson also lamented about everything he’s lost because of the attack.
“I lost two things that I love: football. I love. You know the way I play the game. I enjoy it. I have fun with i. And being married, being a husband, being a lover was an honor, and I lost that,” he said. “I apologized for it. I’m human. I made a mistake.”
Though some would say that Johnson’s stardom allowed his ego and wild temper to go unchecked, he claims that it’s not the fame that’s the problem, it’s himself.
“I think about it. I gotta work on Chad. Chad has to work on Chad. Chad has to go deep down inside and figure out where he went. At what point did he lose focus on what’s important?” he asked.
And though Johnson has been adamant about wanting to maintain his relationship with Lozada, he now shares that he’s lost hop of ever reconciling with her.
“There’s nothing I can say to her because she’s already heard it all. I mean, what can I say except through my actions? Actions speak louder than words and this is the time for me to show action — period,” he said.
“That saying, ‘You never know what you have until it’s gone,’ and now I finally know what that means,” he added.
