These days, NeNe Leakes is working on moving away from her “Real Housewives of Atlanta” roots and moving full time into her life as a certified actress on shows like “Glee” and “The New Normal.” But during a few recent interviews, Leakes took some time to discuss some old friendships from her “RHOA” prime and discussed a surprising new career goal.
During a recent episode of “Watch What Happens Live” with Andy Cohen, Leakes talked about her former friend, Sheree Whitfield, explaining that she bumped into a Whitfield at a funeral, but decided to avoid a confrontation by remaining silent.
However, Leakes wasn’t silent when it came to her thoughts on Whitfield’s much derided, mansion in the making, “Chateau Sheree.”
“The time I saw it, it was up looking like a box. I’m not sure she’s going to be moving in it,” said Leakes, who famously referred to the place as “Neverland.”
Leakes also discussed her infamous feud with her former BFF, Kim Zolciak. And though the two have been bitter enemies for years, Leakes explains that she’s now moved on from the drama.
“I wish her nothing but the best, and I don’t hold a grudge, but I have moved on,” said Leakes, though she adamantly said that their friendship is permanently over.
While Leakes may have closed the chapters on her “RHOA” friendships, she seems to be ready to open the door to a whole new career path — singing.
“I still sing. I don’t know if I’m going to sing on ‘Glee’ or the ‘New Normal,’ but hopefully… I might even sing on ‘Housewives,’ ” explained Leakes, who was originally supposed to sing on Zolciak’s “Tardy for the Party,” before Zolciak decided to do the song solo.
But Leakes adds that she afraid to sing on “RHOA for fear of being lumped in with Zolciak. “I was kinda reluctant to sing on the ‘Housewives’ because there are so many housewives singing that can’t really sing. I didn’t want to get out there and sing and not be taken seriously,” she said on Vh1’s “Big Morning Buzz.”
Well, we’ll just have to wait and see if Leakes really does have the pipes to belt out an amazing tune. But if she does, she won’t be the first actor to work the camera and the mic. Check out some other singing stars below. –nicholas robinson
