Portia Holmes Shields serves as interim president of Tennessee State University. She served as the first female president of Albany State (from 1996 to 2005). During her tenure, she helped increase the number of Presidential Scholars on campus, raised $5.3 million for the university foundation and oversaw record student enrollment.
