Natina Reed’s death came as a shock to the music industry last week when the Blaque singer was struck down by a car near the Atlanta suburb of Lilburn. As friends, family and fans continue to mourn the loss of Reed, police are still trying to piece together the events of that fateful night and figure out what led to Reed’s death.
MTV News recently spoke with Gwinnett County Police who say that the only witnesses to Reed’s death are the driver and passenger of the red Honda Accord that hit her.
“We’re just trying to figure out why [Natina] went out into traffic like she did,” said Gwinnett County police spokesperson Corporal Edwin Ritter. “We don’t know why it happened, but we are looking into it now. If anyone can help us determine why she was there or explain why this happened, we’d like to speak to them.”
Although, initial reports claimed that Reed died as a result of a hit and run, it was later clarified that the driver of the car tried to assist Reed and called 911 to the scene on Lawrenceville Highway near Hamilton Road. Paramedics performed CPR on Reed before taking her to Gwinnett Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 10:59 p.m.
“The driver who hit her is not being charged,” Ritter said. “It was an accident, that’s all it is. It was not a hit and run.”
Hopefully, police will put together the pieces of the puzzle to Reed’s death and help to bring closure to her surviving family and friends. Sadly, Reed isn’t the only celebrity whose death was a shocker. Check out some other surprising deaths below. –nicholas robinson
