It’s been 10 years since the legendary girl group TLC suffered their greatest tragedy: the devastating loss of the dynamic group member Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. Six months later, the remaining two members, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, released what was assumed to be the group’s final album, 3D, before relatively laying low, save some reality TV work. With the ladies claiming they would never replace Left Eye, it looked like TLC was done for good, but now the ladies have revealed that they plan to revive their group and press on.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, T-Boz and Chilli revealed that they plan on releasing their first new album in 10 years. The group is also planning a tour and is working on their upcoming biopic with Vh1, for which they’ll soon be casting lead actresses.
“We’re going to still sound like TLC, evolving to whatever level we need to be at this time,” T-Boz said.
Although, music has certainly changed in the decade since TLC’s last album dropped, the ladies are confident that they can find a way to make their signature sound fit in with today’s pop-dominated music scene.
“We’ve always grown throughout the years and have always had our own sound. That’s what works for us and we don’t have to worry about anybody else,” said T-Boz.
“When that stops working, maybe we’ll hang up the towel, but that still works. We have to get into the studio and start feeling how we feel,” she added. “You have to find yourself first and then you find the path and then you have an album before you know it.”
And, though things won’t be the same without Left Eye on the new record, there may be a chance the fans will see the L of TLC a their tour, as earlier rumors claimed that T and C were considering using a holographic Left Eye, like the holographic 2Pac that was used at Coachella.
Well, hopefully, TLC can stage a major comeback like some of their other 90s comrades, such as the ones we’ve listed below. Check them out after the cut. – nicholas robinson
