‘Basketball Wives’ cast members demand more money

'Basketball Wives' cast members demand more money
Shaunie O’Neal executive producer of “Basketball Wives.”

Do you hear that sound? That’s the sound of Star Jones giggling over the possibility that the “Basketball Wives”  may be  forced to get their act together or come to a screeching halt.  Jones was among the thousands of viewers that have balked about the violence on the show:

“It really struck me that that young brown girls were watching this example of brown women on television,” Jones told Wendy Williams.

As it stands now, the “Basketball Wives” reportedly have drawn a line in the sand over their salaries, and the end may be near.

According to TMZ, several of the  cast members,  Shaunie O’Neal, Evelyn Lozada, Tami Roman and Suzie Ketcham, have agreed to continue taping without locked-in contracts, as their handlers negotiate salary increases on the back end.

VH1 welcomed the return to taping, however, they are not willing to hand out raises so easily.  Says TMZ,

According to our sources, the “Wives” are in the process of renegotiating their contracts and they all want major pay raises, claiming the show does quite well for the network.  Our sources say VH1 is refusing to pony up more cash. We’re told before filming started, execs made it clear that salary increases would not happen and if any cast member had a problem with that … they could be replaced.
Executive producer Shaunie O’Neal is no stranger to cast changes, as viewers know. After the fourth season, Shaunie O’ Neal parted ways with Jennifer Williams,  Royce Reed and Kesha Nichols.
In a statement, O’Neal promised that there will not be as  much violence in season five, although the promise may be too little, too late.
With the petitions, loss of viewers and ad support, it may not be the best time for the “Basketball Wives” to play hardball with VH1 over an increase of salary.
