‘JET’ magazine features first gay married couple
For the first time in the publication’s history, JET magazine is featuring a gay male couple in their famous “Love” section. Grooms Dr. Ravi Perry and Paris Prince are celebrating their union in the mag’s latest issue and making waves as the first men to do so.
“The two gentlemen are a delightful couple that overcame significant obstacles to be together,” said Mitzi Miller, editor-in-chief of JET, about the pair. “Personally and as a policy here at JET Magazine, we respect and embrace all humanity regardless of sexuality. There is no reason not to include same sex couples in our celebration of Black love.”
Ravi, who is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., previously made headlines indirectly when he stood up for his frat brother, Nathanael Gay, during October’s so-called “gay Kappa wedding scandal.” Nathanael Gay and Robert Brown were wed while wearing white and red tuxedos but denied that their unity had any affiliation with the Greek organization. Nonetheless, a professional video of their nuptials sparked various feelings, including praise and outrage.
While Dr. Perry and Prince are the first male couple to be profiled by JET, two other same-sex unions have been featured. Davone Madison and Tiffany Jackson made the mag in March of 2011, while ladies Dr. Tenika Jackon and Nyema Vernon of Los Angeles did the same that August.
