Derek Lamont Anderson was among a host of award recipients who were honored for “their achievements and for utilizing their reach and resources to edify those whose lives they touch,” says Munson Steed, CEO/Publisher rolling out magazine, at the Men of Power and Influence Awards sponsored by Ford.
Anderson grew up in Louisville, Kentucky and his idol was none other than boxing great Muhammad Ali. Abandoned by his parents at a young age, Anderson received a basketball scholarship to Ohio State University, transferred to University of Kentucky and by 1996, he won a national championship. Anderson was the 13th 1997 NBA Draft and played in the league for more than 10 years before retiring in 2008. He was a player for Miami Heat when they earned their NBA world championship title in 2006. Anderson recently launched Loyalty Media Group, a full service film and production company, and has created his first documentary, The Untouchables of Kentucky¸ which is sold in select Walmart stores and online.
