America’s worst school shootings

On Aug. 1, 1966, a former sniper for the U.S. Marines, Charles Whitman, 25, aka the Texas Tower Sniper, went on a shooting spree in Austin, Tex.  Armed and dangerous, Whitman unloaded his arsenal of weapons for 96 minutes from the observation deck of the University of Texas Tower located on the 28th-floor of the Main Building. Sixteen were killed and 31 were wounded.
