On Jan. 17, 1989, Patrick Purdy, 24, shot and killed five children and wounded 29 others, including a teacher, at Cleveland Elementary School in Stockton, Calif. before killing himself. It prompted the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, to visit the school to offer comfort and moral support to the children.
