Janet’s post-All For You decline wasn’t as harrowing as some seem to think, but it was significant. Many blamed her fall on the infamous 2004 Super Bowl “Nipplegate” incident—which likely attributed to the dismal sales of 2004s Damita Jo. But her next two lukewarm albums were probably the fault of a musically-fruitless pairing with her then-boyfriend Jermaine Dupri. Now that JD’s gone and Nipplegate’s almost a decade in the past, Janet has no one to blame if her next project flops.
