Actor Taye Diggs has played a number of onscreen heroes throughout his career, but on Sunday night, the “Private Practice” star became a real-life hero when he single-handedly fended off a burglar in his L.A. home.
According to TMZ, Diggs, who was a presenter during the evening’s SAG Awards, had arrived home with his wife, Idina Menzel, around 11 p.m. to find an intruder in their home.
The man ran off after Diggs confronted him and the actor chased after the guy and eventually caught up to him and held him down until police arrived.
Police say there was a getaway driver, but he, not so surprisingly, got away.
The burglar, 20-year-old Hassan Omar Juma, has now been charged with felony burglary stemming from the incident. Juma has pleaded not guilty, but if he is convicted, he faces up to six years in prison.
