The Beatles are “bigger than Jesus”
John Lennon was irritating Christians even before the Beatles split. In 1966 when the band was at the height of its popularity, he was quoted as saying they were “bigger than Jesus” in an interview. Though he said he was misinterpreted, the backlash was severe — particularly throughout the South in America.
