It was the comeback heard ‘round the reality-TV-loving blogosphere on Monday night’s episode of “Love & Hip Hop” when Jen The Pen told her newest rival, Raqi Thunda, that she’d have an easier time getting onto radio because “I’m white.” But despite her incendiary claim, Jen The Pen is refuting claims that she is in any way racist.
“Racist is the last thing I could EVER be. But being called an ‘entitled HONKY’ on national is okay?’ Jen tweeted moments after the inflammatory scene aired. “Please be clear anything regarding race was heat [of] the moment, the devil will bring out the worst in you.”
Jen’s husband, Consequence, also came to her defense, blaming Raqi, who certainly held no verbal (or sound decibel) punches, for instigating the argument.
“Jen is NOT a Racist. The hoe made her MAD n she defended herself in a racially insensitive manner. I wasn’t there n we are arguing about it,” he tweeted.
However, Raqi also weighed in on the incident and reiterated the message of Jen’s claims.
“THIS B—- JEN SAID SHE WILL GET THAT JOB BEFORE ME CAUSE SHE WHITE!!!! YALL KEEP BOWING DOWN TO THESE FRAUDS,” Raqi tweeted.
In the end, Jen posted an apology to her fans on her Twitter page along with a photo about diverse families.
“This is what my family is made of, if my comments affected anyone I apologize,” she wrote.
While both women were clearly behaving brashly and immaturely, Raqi was clearly wrong for calling Jen a “honky” and Jen was definitely out of line for, to put it bluntly, using her white privilege as a jab against Raqi. Not only was her comment disrespectful to Raqi, but to any minority working to succeed in this world.
Unfortunately, she’s not the only one who’s made some racially offensive remarks. Check out some other insensitive celebs below. –nicholas robinson
