Black boy dials 911 because mom made him go to bedBlack boy calls police on mother to avoid bedtime

Dan Davis, 10, believes he is the man of the house. Of course his mother Shamayne Rosario, 34, was taken aback when the young boy exercised his authority during his week-long vacation from school. Davis believed that since he didn’t have school, his bedtime rules could be bent. Rosario didn’t see things quite the same, so she ordered him to go to bed and stick to his regularly scheduled program. “He’s like, ‘I’m gonna call the cops on you,’” Rosario told the 911 operator. “And I said, ‘Go ahead!’” Black boy dials 911 because mom made him go to bed

He kept his promise and dialed 911. He hung up and buried himself underneath the covers. Davis is too young to understand a well-known rule called exigent circumstances, which establishes probable cause and gives law enforcement the authority to take immediate action, even if he changed his mind and decided to listen to his mother.

Brockton police immediately called back and Rosario explained the situation; however, Davis refused to get on the phone and explain what he’d done. The police department’s protocol is to confirm the call in person to make sure the caller is not in an emergency situation: being held hostage or under duress.
