Student shoots self at Atlanta's Grady High School

Shooting reported at Grady high school

Police are on the scene at Atlanta’s Grady high school after a 17-year-old student reportedly shot herself in the thigh. According to authorities no other students were injured when a shot rang out around 9:30 a.m. this morning.

“(It) appears (a) student has a self-inflicted wound to the thigh,” said Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones to local news outlets.

The Atlanta Public Schools system has also released a statement via Twitter assuring parents that their students are safe. “Grady High has been placed on a hard lockdown. There has been a shooting at Grady High School. One student has been injured,” wrote APS. “We are continuing to monitor the situation at Grady High. The school will remain on a hard lockdown per APS & APD.”

A gunman is not believed to be on the loose and authorities are currently investigating why the teen had a weapon.

This marks the second time in recent weeks that a shooting has occurred at an Atlanta school. In January a student was shot at Price Middle school.
