Harlem School of the Arts honors Herb Alpert

In recognition of American music icons Herb Alpert and Lani Hall Alpert, whose philanthropy through the Herb Alpert Foundation since 2010 totals $6 million, Harlem School of the Arts (HSA) named its award-winning 37,000-square-foot building Harlem School of the Arts – The Herb Alpert Center.

On Monday, March 11, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and a host of theater and music celebrities attended the unveiling. The event included performances by HSA alumna and actress N’Kenge, who stars in Motown: The Musical, and current HSA students added a special crescendo to the event.

Others in attendance included Yvette L. Campbell, President and CEO, Harlem School of the Arts (HSA); Tywla Tharp, choreographer; N’Kenge, HSA alumna and actress in Motown: The Musical, currently on Broadway; Tamara Tunie, Tony Award-winning TV and film actress and producer; Gregory Generet, jazz singer; and Tommy LiPuma, music producer, and his wife, Gill.
