Do you need to be in rehab for cellphone addiction?

Woman Talking on Cell Phone During Movie

Have African Americans and folks in other countries,  become as dependent on their cell phones as the crew of the sci-fi series Star Trek was dependent on their communicators? Not too long ago, we actually had cell phones that even resembled those communicators. But now, there is a vast array of phones – each with an insane number of features and available applications that are designed to make them a vital part of everyday life.

Ask the average person if they’d rather give up their home phone or cell, and you’ll get the same response from 99 out of 100 people; take the house phone, I hardly use it anyway. So with cell phones being such a big part of our lives, you must ask – are we addicted?

Here are questions to ask yourself:

1.  Is my cell phone within a six-inch radius of me – right now? If it is, this could be an indicator, but not inconclusive – keep reading.

2.  Do I look at my phone for no reason? You know, that glimpse that you occasionally shoot at a member of the opposite sex like Oh-you’re-so-cute. This one is a stronger indicator.

3.  Would I rather text my friend, family member, spouse or etc. or call them? Another strong indicator is that it could also point to a serious lack of interactive social skills.

4.  Do I find new apps to load to my phone because I need them, or because it gives me something else to do with my phone? If you answered yes to this one – you and your phone are dating – sorry.

5.  Last question. Would I rather curl up by a fire with a significant other or my cell? Don’t laugh. You’d be surprised at how many people tap the Siri app, and have nice long chats.
