Meek Mill on Rick Ross’ rape lyrics: ‘Rap’s always been about killing, drugs’

Meek Mill attempted to stand up for his boss during a recent interview at a D.C. radio station. While discussing the protest against Rick Ross’ lyrics about rape, Meek Mill said, “People rap about killing stuff all day. Biggie said, “Rape your kid, throw her over the bridge” back then, it was nothing, it was just hip-hop. Now you got all these weirdos on these social sites voicing their opinion about something anybody say [sic].”

Meek Mill went on to suggest that rap lyrics don’t have an overall affect on how a person feels or acts. He compared the process of creating a rap to  writing a screenplay. “It’s imaginary visual,” Meek Mill said.  “If a writer write [sic] about somebody getting raped in a movie, [does] that mean he a [sic] rapist or he want girls to get raped? No, he just wrote about that in a movie.”

Although Meek Mill is standing behind Rick Ross, rape victims are amping up their protest. A women’s rights group is protesting outside of Reebok’s headquarters in New York with the hopes of provoking Reebok to drop Rick Ross as a spokesperson.

Rick Ross issued a halfhearted apology and Reebok has yet to respond.
