LL’s “Dear Mr. White Man” lyric
Honestly, when hearing LL Cool J begin his rap with “Dear Mr. White Man,” it’s hard not to imagine Samuel L. Jackson’s ridiculous character in the film, Django Unchained. It’s definitely something Stephen would say. Hip-hop has always been about going against the grain and standing up for yourself. Although there is nothing wrong with showing respect for another person, LL comes across as a submissive black man with that one line. Considering the context of the song, saying “Dear Mr. white man” makes it worse.
