Charles S. Dutton
While growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, Charles S. Dutton was known as a rebel. Dutton stabbed and killed a man when he was 17. He served time in prison for manslaughter. But during his incarceration, Dutton began reading a book on black playwrights and joined the prison’s drama club. After earning his GED and graduating from Towson State University, Dutton received a master’s degree from Yale School of Drama. He later starred in Roc and continues to work in Hollywood as an actor and director.
