Hip-hop superstar and business mogul Jay-Z looks to be following through on his plans to build his Roc Nation Sports management brand.

According to the Major League Baseball Players Association, Jay is applying to become a certified baseball agent. He reportedly submitted an application two days ago, MLBPA spokesman Greg Bouris told the media in a telephone interview. Bouris says that there is no set timetable for the processing of the application.

The move is the latest in a string of developments over the past several weeks that have suggested that Jay-Z is taking his move into the world of professional sports management very seriously. Roc Nation Sports and Creative Artists Agency signed New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano, and Jay has begun the sale of his share of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, reportedly so that Roc Nation can expand its interest in professional basketball management without violating NBA bylaws. In order to represent NBA players, Jay-Z can’t be affiliated with ownership of an NBA team.

Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports and Creative Artists Agency announced earlier this month a joint representation venture with New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano as its first client. Under the deal with Cano, Roc Nation handles the Yankee’s marketing while CAA will handle his contract negotations. CAA’s Brodie Van Wagenen is now listed as Cano’s agent.
