How would you describe yourself?

Basically, I am a lover of music, and all things art.  I feel like God gives everyone certain gifts and I appreciate that I was given art. I indulge in everything from sketching pictures to photography and fashion, but music is my heart.

When did you fall in love with songwriting and production?

Well honestly, I was kind of pushed into my music career.  My mom was an artist when she was younger, so her ambitions kind of transferred over to me. I used to be in a group, and I just fell in love with being in the studio and recording.  After the group disbanded, I got the idea to start writing and that opened the door for my artistry.

What are some things that inspire you?

I can get inspired by walking down the street and seeing a sign on a bus for a movie or something, and that might spark an idea.  I tend to get inspired by personal situations or current events.  That’s how I come up with different scenarios. I try to make music that has a message, and I love telling stories.

Do you have a songwriting process?

My process depends on the situation.  Sometimes, I write with other people. We’ll listen to the melody of the song then go into the booth and begin writing. Working by myself is a little harder because I’m alone in the process.  I find myself looking for the story as I listen to a track.  From there, I begin building from the ground up.

How do you stay grounded?

I’ve been through so much, but at the end of the day, life is simple.  Happiness is a choice. You can choose to let your circumstances and things going on in your life hold you back and prevent you from reaching your goals or you can put it all in God’s hands.
