Brazil-based modeling agency Star Models has launched an anti-anorexia marketing campaign.
The tag lines read “Say no to anorexia” and “You’re not a sketch.”
Cleverly, they’re using photoshop to convert illustrations of models to waifs. Side-by-side, it’s reminiscent of an alter-ego photo-shoot. People with eating disorders (a touching topic for women whose livelihood depends on their body image) are being targeted by modeling scouts. A recent case was reported in Sweden.
According to the Stockholm Center for Eating Disorders, a number of girls approached last year were in their teens and some patients have a body mass index (BMI) — a measurement of height-to-weight ratio — of just 14. A healthy adult female will have a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9.
