Chicago teenager Cornelius German, was found dead on Monday, April 22, 2013 just four blocks away from President Barack Obama’s home in Chicago’s Kenwood neighborhood. According to German’s relatives Cornelius, nicknamed Cornbread, was talking to friends in the backyard of a home in the 5000 block of South Evans Avenue when a dice game broke up around 9:30 p.m. Gunfire erupted and Cornelius was hit in the back. Earlier that day, German shared with his mother that he was apprehensive about waiting at the bus stop because of recent violence and shootings. He planned to have his mother, Timika Rutledge, pick him up from a friends house. But instead she witness police carrying her son out wrapped in a burgundy blanket as they prepared to transport him to the morgue.
Authorities confirmed that he was affiliated with a gang.
Cornelius German death comes about three months after the fatal shooting of another 15-year-old, Hadiya Pendleton, who was gunned down in a park about a mile from the Obama home in the Kenwood neighborhood of Chicago.
As of late Tuesday no one was in custody, reports say
