‘Iron Man’ and the greatest superhero movies of all time

Before the modern era of superhero franchise films, it was pretty much universally accepted that The Godfather Part II was far and away the greatest sequel ever made.

That is no longer the case. While the Al Pacino- and Robert De Niro-led follow-up to The Godfather — which, incidentally, is on some critics’ list as the overall greatest movie ever made — still tops some movie aficionados’ lists at the best sequel of all time, it now has stiff competition from a plethora of outstanding superhero films, including Iron Man.

It is obvious that doing superhero films enable directors and writers with great vision to stretch their legs artistically and creatively, which is why so many of these films continue to be box-office blockbusters, record breakers, all while being critically-acclaimed.
