The parents of 16 year-old Kimani Gray are planning to sue the city of New York. Two months ago, Gray was approached by two police from the NYPD while in Brooklyn. They claim that Gray pointed a .38 caliber hand gun at them and told him not to move.
However, witnesses have disputed the officer’s testimony and claim that he didn’t point gun. Gray was shot seven times and three bullets entered his back.
Witnesses say he laid in a pool of blood for 15 minutes without any medical assistance. Afterwards, residents of the East Flatbush neighborhood began protesting and dozens were arrested.
Gray’s parents are now preparing to sue the city and are asking for an independent investigation.
