The Great Gatsby
Stars: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton

This isn’t the first silver screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel, but it is the first to be scored by the great Jay-Z and a few of his famous friends, and that alone makes this a film worth seeing.

Nick Caraway (Tobey Maguire) covets his filthy rich neighbor’s life (Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby), but Gatsby has a number of skeletons in his closet. While Caraway is enamored with Gatsby, Gatsby is obsessed with pursuing Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan) after their relationship was interrupted by a little skirmish called World War I. It seems that despite his lavish parties and extravagant lifestyle, Gatsby’s dark side is simmering just beneath the surface. –p.d. lee
