From U2 to Radiohead: The 20 greatest rock albums of 2000s

No. 6 Funeral by Arcade Fire (2004)

Powerful and uplifting, the debut album from the Canadian indie rockers is a heady mix of Springsteen-ish anthems and Bowie-esque melodrama. The band’s gift for grandiose lyrics and sweeping productions are already in place and hadn’t yet become cloying here. Easily one of the most beautiful rock albums of its era.
