President Barack Obama received an honorary degree from Robert Davidson, chair of the board of trustees, during Morehouse College’s 129th commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 19, 2013, in Atlanta.
An honorary degree is an academic degree for which a university has waived the usual requirements, such as matriculation, residence, study and the passing of examinations.
A few former presidents and our current president who have received honorary degrees include:

George W. Bush – Yale University
Bill Clinton – Howard University
Jimmy Carter – Morehouse College, 1972; Morris Brown College, 1972; University of Notre Dame, 1977; Emory University, 1979; University of Pennsylvania, 1998
President Barack Obama and pormer President Jimmy Carter are the only presidents to receive an honorary degree from the same college.
